HOW-THE RETREAT CONTENT

BODY SCAN MEDITATION FOR FOUNDATION

The entire course occurs in noble silence; however, for 5 hours of each day, we will be in seated, silent, somatic meditation. Sit duration ranges from 30-60 min. We will be sharing the body scan technique, as taught by Marshall Glickman, in his book Beyond the Breath.

Please note that this is NOT a Vipassana course. We are not using the pre-recorded Goenka tapes. We teach the technique, as we find it quite an effective and efficient tool for integrated awareness. We also support an embodied approach to doing the Great Work of transformation.

If you are unfamiliar with the Vipassana technique, we encourage you to NOT study this technique book beforehand.  The purity in the surprise of learning the technique step-by-step, in real time, is exquisite. Enjoy the mystery.

DAILY YOGA FOR EMBODIED PRESENCE

In the eight branches of Yoga as explained by Patanjali, asanas or body postures, are utilized to help prepare the body and mind for extended sitting meditation. Although many traditional meditation courses refrain from practicing asana, we find that modern day practitioners often benefit from daily yoga to support their ability to sit for several hours each day.

Therefore, we will be offering two optional yoga classes daily, offered by Echo, a Yoga Alliance certified teacher, who has her own Internationally acclaimed and accredited yoga school, Full Circle Yoga. One class will be more dynamic, and the other will be a more yin and gentle class. No previous experience is necessary.
